This bowl is modeled after an antique wooden bowl is over 150 years old, hand-carved from wood by artisans in India. These handcrafted bowls were each carved with a flat rim and used to carry grains from the market home, store grains and spices, and eat cooked food. The deep sides and a flat base allowed for easy grinding of spices for cooking. The dark color of the wood is from natural hand oils from heavy use over time.
